Every week I look at my workout calendar and I add one or two hot yoga classes. I stumble up the stairs and lay out my mat. We begin breathing and my demons appear. I swat them away and we begin. I blink and we are doing our breathing again. After class I bound down those stairs ready to slay dragons or take on all challenges in life! That's why I love hot yoga!

Hot Yoga is great because I'm a 63 year young man with arthritis in all my joints, and knees that are at times painful. When I take 2 or more classes per week, I feel 20-30 years younger! I can run down the flight of stairs after class, jump on my bike and ride till the cows come home. All my joints; shoulders, elbows and knees all feel refurbished & reconditioned, like I just got a lube job. I swear by it and recommend it to anybody and everybody. I've been a regular hot yoga practitioner for almost 17 yrs. and still, when class is over, I can’t wait until the next one.

I have been practicing yoga regularly at Hot Yoga Rockaway Beach for over two years and cannot recommend this practice more enthusiastically. It is the highlight of my day. The teachers and fellow yogis create a warm, welcoming and friendly environment. Sometimes I enter the studio reluctantly, yet always exit feeling better for showing up. On a recent visit I came to class feeling poorly. I was congested all morning and could not stop sneezing. Once in the heat moving through the meditative practice, I felt better. By the end of class I was no longer sneezing and my head was clear. Give it a try. You might find your tribe.

I have done this yoga for two weeks, about 15 times in total and can feel my body getting into balance enabling me to move with more pleasure and less pain. It's not that hard, as the teacher says : 90% of the effort is to come to class. I feel great just being in a hot room as I hate cold weather in general. Body-wise I have tight areas and many misbalances between my right and left side as a result of my intense Soviet tennis practices that never included any stretching! Hot yoga is helping me to rediscover my body. My inspiration is to become a female Bruce Lee! At my last practice I finally got the hang of the opening breathing exercise… Personally I feel that proper breathing is 99% of success in sport and life. Due to tennis, specifically its repetitive movement for forehand and serve, over time, my bottom right rib cage closed itself slightly. I can also feel that my right nostril inhales and exhales with lesser force, my right lung is less efficient compared to the other one. I have the muscles but my mind is not connected to them. Yoga can fix it. Yoga can make any sport fell more effortless and more enjoyable. On top of that, My skin looks great after all the sweating. I only wish I had such a place nearby. Special thank you to all instructors for explaining the MANY benefits of each postures which serves as a great motivator and for their individual corrections. I recently completed my 20th NYC Marathon. For a change of pace I decided to take some classes at Hot Yoga Rockaway Beach in the rest week leading up to the race. I found the movements stretched and relaxed my overtrained muscles, especially hamstrings. After class a feeling of calm eased the pre race anxiety. Felt great on Marathon day and had an excellent race. After a couple of days rest I took three classes the following week. Helped speed my recovery and seemed to ward off the dreaded post-marathon blues. Many thanks to Anita and staff.

Today will be my fourth hot yoga class taken consecutively and the results have exceeded expectations to a point of surreality. I feel thinner. I feel lighter. I feel brighter. I feel calmer. I feel more grounded. I feel more focused. I sleep and wake with ease. I have almost completely quit smoking in less than a week with zero nicotine replacement despite a variety of past failed attempts. I feel more in touch with my body. I am more sensitive to my body's feelings and sensations; both good and bad. My mind and body are fluidly communicative. I am eating clean, conscious of everything I choose to put in my body. I feel beautiful. Prior to beginning my hot yoga journey, I slept until almost 2pm (I begin work at 4pm) and felt constantly fatigued. Now, I am waking up at 8:15am thankful that the sun is shining and I am on my way to "bliss". Multiple times throughout my day I get yoga highs where I spontaneously feel AMAZING. I'll find myself smiling for no reason at all and yes, I am aware this can come across as looking crazy but I feel too good to care about what I look like. My skin is clearer and has a healthy glow. I was telling a friend about my yoga experiences thus far and in our conversation he advised me not to push myself too hard and to not force myself to go everyday and that it's okay to start slow. He meant well but I explained to him that there is no forcing at all. I am not forcing myself to class, I am anticipating it. I crave the heat to sweat and rid my body of internal and external maladies. I crave Anita's spunky spirit and perfectly timed comic relief as sweat is dribbling into my eyes, ears, nose, mouth and my legs are quivering. I owe it to my body to loosen up and stretch and challenge my capacity (which improves every single class). I owe it to my mind and soul to feel serene and harmonious. Since starting hot yoga a little over a month ago, the body stiffness and lower back pains that I had felt are completely gone. (The back pain actually disappeared after my first class!) Period and PMS cramps seem to be a thing of the past. My body is toner than it's been in a while and to add to that, on four separate occasions, I was told that I look taller.

I never wanted to do hot yoga. I just wanted to stretch my body in a regular, normal-temperature yoga class. I was sure I'd hate hot yoga. I mean, who needs to be hotter when exercising? But after hearing so many raving about hot yoga, I figured I'd give it a try for two weeks. You can't beat that intro price. So here I am, a convert, who looks forward to rolling out her mat and sweating in a hot yoga class at least four times a week.

Two weeks ago my friend Lisa called me in early morning and asked if I wanted to join her at Hot Yoga. She has been going for years and always mentioned that I should try it. For the past 2 years, I have been experiencing chronic pain in my left ankle and was sometimes awaken from sleep with pain in my ankle. I was taking at least 3 advil at a time per day and suffered headaches daily as well. I recently turned 40 and felt at my absolute worst. I gained over 40 pounds, suffered from depression, was always exhausted, had bad skin, very dry hair and aches and pains all over.

In only 2 weeks time practicing Hot Yoga, I have almost no pain in my ankle, aches and pains are gone, depression lifted and feeling more energized each day! I have not reached for the advil bottle since the day I started. I can't believe what I am accomplishing with my body. I am losing weight and my skin and hair are glowing. I am so grateful to my friend Lisa for introducing me to something that I hope to never ever stop doing. Anita, you told me the first day of Hot Yoga would be the best day of my life.......you were right! Thank you!

In Aug. 2013 I was given a gift certificate for hot yoga that I did not use it until Nov 2013. Needless to say I did not want to come. But, I did. I have NO REGRETS now. I had a lot of issues. I had knee surgery over 5 years ago. I had pain every night. I used 3 pillows to prop my knee up to alleviate the pain. Over 3 years ago I had surgery on my Achilles tendon. I had pain in my foot area every day for 3 years. Since attending hot yoga I can honestly say I NO LONGER HAVE PAIN IN MY ACHILLES TENDON or my foot. My knee has greatly improved. Thanks to all the instructors for helping me with my transition. Claire and Jeanne for your demonstrations of the poses; you both are so sweet. Thank you. Anita and Christine, thank you both for your hands on approach and your encouragement that keeps me coming back. All of my progress may not be visual but all of my progress is as a result of attending hot yoga. I am still a work in progress but a happier work in progress. Thank you so much (smile).

I have just completed the Challenge: 30 classes in 30 days, which I haven't done since beginning hot yoga more than 15 years ago! I've been taking classes regularly, but not every day. I have to say that the challenge was life-changing. Somewhere around the 15th day, my body was broken. Somewhere soon after that, my body started to open up. The effect it has had on my attitude and well being is nothing short of phenomenal. If you haven’t tried hot yoga or done the 30 day challenge, I highly recommend it. You will not be the same after it. As if feeling great from 30 days of yoga wasn't enough, my picture was taken and put up on "The Wall of Fame", I got a congratulatory balloon, a certificate, a round of applause from the other students, and as if that still wasn’t enough, I also received 1 week of free yoga! It was an incredibly touching experience and I feel so lucky to have Anita and all of the great teachers that are a part of her warm and comfortable yoga studio.

Living on the Rockaway peninsula this year has been a challenge for many of us. My personal response after losing my home and my job was to sit on the couch wondering what to do next. I had the good fortune to find an offer to take a week-long introduction to hot yoga, something I had heard about and knew that friends had raved about, but had never tried myself. After gasping through the first class, as my inner brain was saying "WHAT???", everyone around me was telling me, "you have to come back tomorrow"......OK, I thought, but then I realized I had just been in contact with my inner brain, which had been out to lunch for a while. So, I got up the next day and the day after that, until what I found was that I was looking forward to getting back into the hot room and connecting with this unbelievably uplifting experience. I was hooked. I signed on for a month of classes and completed the 30 day challenge. And, believe me, it was a challenge. But who was happier than me in that moment when I posed for a photo, soaked to the skin with a goofy smile, knowing that I was now part of a very unique group of folks who got off the couch. My heartfelt thanks for the staff/friends at Hot Yoga Rockaway Beach. I would never have found the confidence to continue without the camaraderie and support they offered.

PS...I personally believe Anita trained with a few of the nuns who taught me in grade school. Never met anyone who could bark orders like that while offering a massage to my just-worked back muscles!!

There are soooo many reasons why hot yoga has been a lifesaver. I have been recovering from Hurricane Sandy, I hate the cold weather and have several health conditions. After practicing only once a week for 6 months, as well as completing a 30 Day Challenge that just ended, my life has been transformed. Longstanding, severe back pain is completely gone. I can wear flat shoes again for the first time in many years. Enduring a lifetime of a chronic respiratory disease, I've gone from taking an inhaler multiple times a day, every day of my life, to now taking it once a week at most. I lost 10lbs. unexpectedly & toned up, too. My flexibility is the best its ever been & my energy levels have shot up. I took 30 classes in 30 days.
I've dabbled with Yoga for a few years, but was never really able to commit or get into it. Looking for a way to reenter the practice, I thought Hot Yoga might fit the bill. Initially, I really wondered what I was getting myself into, taking challenging positions in a superheated--temperature wise--environment. Each day, I made progress, sometimes small, but it was there; gaining greater flexibility, stamina and discipline. The teachers were supportive, and tasked me to do my best. I think I achieved something substantial and feel empowered having taken this on and made it through. I recommend it to anyone who wants to feel better & centered.

Thank you for convincing me to try Hot Yoga. I'll admit I was petrified that first class but made it through.... that night I slept soundly for 7 hours for the first time in two years. I was still doubtful that one class made this difference, I returned the following night and again slept like a log, I was hooked, and after each class noticed my energy level was better and better, I was more patient, no more anxiety or hot flashes.... I can go on and on but I think you get the message. You've put the color back into what had become a black and white existence. I can't thank you enough. Did I mention that I am 55 years old and have been dealing with a roller coaster of hormonal changes the last few years, I had almost resigned myself to the fact that I would never see my old self again. Guess What.....She's Back!!!

As a lifelong athlete, martial artist and fitness buff, I have had my fair share of fitness related injuries. I had practiced hot yoga on and off since about 1999; mostly off due to lack of a convenient studio. Then, the unthinkable occurred. I suffered a sports injury that resulted in a total knee reconstruction. Devastated due to my inability to work out and slow recovery, I decided to dedicate myself to renewing my hot yoga practice. The results have been astounding. I have regained almost 100% of my mobility and range of motion, and I owe my progress to hot yoga. Today I am pain-free and back to all of my favorite sports, including running!

I have been doing yoga since 1972 and have experienced many yoga styles and teachers. I have found Anita's hot yoga class to be constantly and consistently the most enjoyable yoga I have ever done. She is one of the very few teachers whose class you can take every day and not be bored. If you have never taken her class you don't know what you are missing; she makes every class fun and enjoyable. I would highly recommend the studio; bright, clean, beautiful and the heat is perfect. I usually practice in Bklyn 8 blocks from where I live. The thought of going out to Hot Yoga Rockaway Beach with Anita gives my heart a lightness that eases my practice and tears years off my body & brain; I'm home again!

At the age of 61, and after 12 years of practice, I continue to see improvement in my flexibility and range in the postures. It is truly amazing!

I no longer have pain in my knees and elbows and my energy level is as high as ever! Anita is a fine, dedicated teacher who makes each student feel that she has a special interest in their progress. Every class is infused with Anita's special brand of humor, smiles and laughter. Rockaway is so lucky to have this new, clean, calm space in which to practice yoga.
